We have done our research and compiled a list of excellent resources that you can sort through based on where you are at currently, or where you are looking to be with your education and/or training in the future.

AATCA – Alaska Apprenticeship Training Coordinators Association

The Alaska Apprenticeship Training Coordinators Association (AATCA) is composed of the Joint Administered Training Committee’s (JATC’s) of more than 16 different union construction crafts. The JATC’s engage in providing quality training for the majority of construction apprentices in Alaska.

ABC of Alaska

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Alaska offers Apprenticeship Programs in: Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, Insulating, Laborer, Pipe-Fitting, Plumbing, Sheet Metal and Sprinkler Fitting.

ACA – Alaska Construction Academies

The list of organizations represents the AWIB's designated awarded statewide network of ACA program service providers.

ACAC – Alaska College & Career Advising Consortium

ACAC, a program sponsored by ACPE, provides training and resources to education partners across the state who are committed to developing a postsecondary education culture and helping Alaska's students access and benefit from postsecondary education and career training.

ACPE – Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education

ACPE promotes access to and success in education and career training beyond high school. ACPE offers free resources, student financial aid (Alaska Performance Scholarship, Alaska Education Grant, and various education loans), financial aid literacy, postsecondary planning guidance, K-8 classroom curriculum, and FAFSA completion assistance.

ACPE Consumer Protection & Institutional Authorization

The purpose of Institutional Authorization (IA) is “to provide for the protection, education, and welfare of the citizens of the state, its postsecondary educational institutions, and its students”.

ACPE Success Center

The ACPE Success Center offers education, career training, and financial aid guidance through Zoom, email, telephone, and in-person appointments.

ACPE’s Master the FAFSA Training

ACPE’s Master the FAFSA Training empowers education stakeholders and provides them with the knowledge and deeper understanding of the FAFSA process (for dependent and independent students) so that they have more confidence assisting their students and families independently with successful FAFSA completion.

ACT Workforce Solutions

Our mission is to help create thriving workforce ecosystems that foster economic growth. From ACT WorkKeys to WorkKeys Curriculum and the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC), ACT offers leading workforce development solutions for businesses and communities.

AEDC – Anchorage Economic Development Corporation

The mission of AEDC is to grow a prosperous, sustainable and diverse economy. It exists to encourage economic growth and diversity in Anchorage, to promote a favorable business climate, and to raise Anchorage residents’ standard of living.

AEG – Alaska Education Grant

The Alaska legislature created the Alaska Education Grant (AEG) program to provide need-based financial assistance to eligible Alaska students attending qualifying postsecondary educational institutions in Alaska.

AGC – Associated General Contractors of Alaska

As the state’s leading construction trade association, AGC provides its members with products and services designed to improve and grow their business and enhance the professionalism of Alaska’s construction industry.

AKCIS – Alaska Career Information System

AKCIS is a free resource available to Alaska residents. It is made possible through a partnership between the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) and the Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development (Alaska DOLWD).

AKCIS Junior: 5th-8th Grade

AKCIS Jr. is a free, interactive, web-based education and career planning tool which helps students in grades 5-8 identify their interests, explore career pathways, and begin to make their own Personal Learning and Career Plans.

Alaska ACTE

Alaska Association for Career & Technical Education (Alaska ACTE) is a professional organization that provides leadership in advocacy, professional development and works to build an effective CTE network across Alaska.

Alaska Advantage Program

The Alaska Advantage program encourages high school students to take high-quality online courses, offered by University of Alaska Fairbanks and University of Alaska Southeast.

Alaska AHEC

The Alaska Area Health Education Centers (Alaska AHEC) program consists of academic and community-based partnerships focused on primary care workforce engagement, training and recruiting, and retaining activities to improve the distribution, diversity, supply, and quality of healthcare personnel.

Alaska AHEC: Health Careers Exploration

Each of the Alaska AHEC centers have staff dedicated to recruiting Alaskans into health careers and supporting students of all ages and paths on their educational journey. They are involved in exposing Alaskans to the wide range of health careers through a multitude of activities.

Alaska AHEC: PATH Camps and Academies

Preparing Alaskans for Training in Health (PATH) is a collection of camps and academies designed to encourage students to consider healthcare professions. Camps are aimed at students ages 15-19, while academies are for adults and youth who are not currently enrolled in school.

Alaska DOLWD: Employment and Training Services

The Division of Employment and Training Services (DETS) works with business and industry to build a trained and prepared workforce by providing labor exchange, employment and training services, and unemployment insurance to Alaskans and Alaska businesses, thereby advancing opportunities for employment and economic stability for communities in Alaska.

Alaska DOLWD: Vocational Rehabilitation

Each year, the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) helps hundreds of Alaskans with disabilities prepare for, get and keep good jobs. If you want to work or keep working and have a physical, intellectual or mental condition that makes this hard, you may be eligible for vocational rehabilitation (VR) services.

Alaska DOT&PF – Department of Transportation and Public Facilities

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (Alaska DOT&PF) has instituted the On-the-Job Training (OJT) program as a condition of continued funding for federal aid highway construction projects. Historically, it has been recognized that a need exists to train women and minority employees in the construction trades.

Alaska EXCEL

Alaska EXCEL is a key component in supplementing CTE curriculum in rural Alaska school districts. Provided with our unique educational opportunities, students are able to experience career exploration starting in the 7th grade and can continue until the summer following high school graduation.

Alaska Laborers Training School

The Alaska Laborers Training School offers excellent training in various construction fields. It also offers a career track opportunity to those without any professional construction experience through its Apprenticeship Program. Applications are accepted year round, with a set deadline before periodically scheduled interviews.

Alaska Middle College School is a dual enrollment program that offers opportunities for college-ready students to enroll in university courses in a collegiate setting while ensuring the completion of a high school diploma.

APS – Alaska Performance Scholarship

Administered by ACPE, the Alaska Performance Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship for Alaska high school graduates. This three-tiered scholarship is based on GPA, test scores, and completing a rigorous high school curriculum.

AVTEC’s Related Studies Program (RSP)

The mission of the Related Studies Program is to provide third party testing by correspondence or online to students throughout Alaska who could not otherwise receive the apprenticeship or upgrade training necessary to become more skilled as a worker, technician or manager.

Students build a strong foundation to better understand the importance of academics, extracurricular activities, and healthy study habits as it relates to future career goals.

ETPL – Eligible Training Providers List of Alaska

The Division of Employment and Training Services (DETS), in partnership with the Alaska Workforce Investment Board (AWIB) identifies and certifies training programs that meet required performance levels. Approved programs are eligible to receive WIOA funding to train Adults, Dislocated Workers, and Youth program participants.

FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid

Use the FAFSA form to apply for financial aid for college or career training school, or graduate school.

FAFSA Wednesdays

Created for individuals, students, and families, ACPE's FAFSA Wednesdays offer free, year round FAFSA completion assistance and troubleshooting via Zoom. Individuals can drop in at any time between 3:00pm and 6:00pm; registration not required.

FSA – Federal Student Aid

Federal Student Aid (FSA), a part of the U.S. Department of Education, is the largest provider of student financial aid in the nation. FSA is responsible for managing the student financial assistance programs authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. These programs provide grant, work-study, and loan funds to students attending college or career school.

The UA Scholars Program

The UA Scholars Award is a $12,000 scholarship awarded to students in the top ten percent of their Alaska high school class at the end of the junior year. The Award may be used toward the cost of attendance at any location within the University of Alaska system.

The University of Alaska: Scholarships

Donors make it possible for the University of Alaska Foundation to offer more than $3.5 million in scholarship awards annually. Scholarships are available to students attending UAA, UAF or UAS, including all community campuses. Applications must be received by February 15, to be considered for most scholarships.

The University of Alaska: “Stay on TRACK” Campaign

The "Stay on TRACK" campaign is grounded in the philosophy that students and the university can take deliberate actions to help students graduate in a more timely manner, saving them money.

The WIOA Youth Program

The WIOA Youth Program improves the quality of the workforce by preparing eligible youth for unsubsidized employment, placement into postsecondary education and training, and connections to employers for work in priority industries.

USAJOBS

It is a searchable database of US federal jobs at all levels with links to internships and bridge programs. Applicants can save a profile and apply for multiple jobs. Locations and pay vary, as do closing dates and eligibility requirements.

WeBuildAlaska

The primary goal of WeBuildAlaska is to create a bridge to connect potential construction workers with apprenticeship and training programs, providing them with the resources and information they need to get started.

Professions in state government help support many aspects of life in the Last Frontier including healthcare, protection of citizens, and preserving natural resources, just to name a few. What we do makes a difference to the people of Alaska.

WUE – Western Undergraduate Exchange

WUE is an agreement among WICHE’s 16 member states and territories, through which 160+ participating public colleges and universities provide steep nonresident tuition savings for Western students.

Youth Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship programs for youth between the ages of 16-24 combine academic and technical classroom instruction with work experience through an apprenticeship program. It provides the foundation for youth to choose among multiple pathways – to enroll in college, begin full-time employment, or a combination.
